These are the informations about India Flint’s workshop in Brittany in Autumn 2024.
» Follow your wild heart away from the hustle and bustle to Bretagne, a wonderful region of France that almost feels like an island (over two thirds of its perimeter is bathed by the Atlantic) and join India Flint (author of ‘Eco Colour’ and ‘Second Skin’) in a live-in retreat exploring the visual and sensory poetry of this beautiful locality.
This year our theme is the search for blue, and with that in mind several gardeners in the region have been approached to grow both woad and Japanese indigo for us.
We will of course also be making daily dye bundles using the lovely falling leaves of autumn, lighting a fire under our cauldrons each afternoon. As we dye and print our cloth fragments we will stitch them together to create a journeycloth with a twist, so that it becomes a never-ending story, to keep us warm on future wanderings.
It will be a particularly beautiful time to be in Bretagne, a season of red and gold leaves, fragrant apples, drifting mists and cooler days leading up to Samhain, the period that marks the beginning of the darker months of the year. Bring your favourite woolly jumper and stout waterproof footwear!
You may also wish to bring a pre-loved garment to embellish and stitch with text or patterns derived from the surrounding landscape.
We will be staying together at the delightful Gîtes de Couleurs, a brisk 3.7km walk to the ocean where fascinating piles of pebbles lie and the swimming is gloriously refreshing (but usually we manage to car pool our way there).
All meals will be lovingly prepared by our chef, Geraldine Desindes, who works tirelessly to nourish us in both body and soul, and shared at the long table in the beautiful Blue Room.
There will be opportunities to visit Brocantes nearby, but most of our hours will be spent around the gite and the surrounding countryside.

- Dates :
From Sunday the 29th of September to Saturday the 5th of October 2024.
This is a 5 days workshop from Monday 30th of September in the morning to Friday 4th of October afternoon. My advice is to arrive on Sunday 29th of September before dinner to enjoy 5 full days together ; we will have to leave on Saturday 5th of October after breakfast.

The workshop will be taught in English.

It is localed in Treogat (Finistère). The closest cities are Pont l’Abbé and Quimper.
- Travel :
The closest airports and train stations are Quimper, and Brest. Closer to the date we can arrange your travel to the Gite des Couleurs between participants. Living in Brest, I can easily help you organize your travel, and give you some advices on what to see and do in Brittany.
- Accommodation and pricing :
Géraldine Desindes will be our cook with fresh, local and organic ingredients as much as possible.
There are triple, double and single rooms available for a total of 12 students. Each bathroom will be shared by 4 students.
Pricing varies depending on your choice of accommodation.

Double room : 2300€

The price includes :
– 6 nights / 5 days accommodation : all breakfasts, lunches, dinners and refreshments from Sunday 29th (dinner) to Saturday 5th (breakfast),
– the 5 days workshop with India
– 1 handmade watercolors set by Deep Deep Light, 2 big sheets of handmade paper, persicaria tinctoria and woad (fresh leaves)
But it does not include your travel to and from the Gite des Couleurs, and our other supplies as scissors, needles, threads, dressmaking pins or safetypins, a notebook and the things you write and draw with, and no more than a shopping bag of mixed undyed natural fibre pieces.

J’ai eu l’immense honneur d’accueillir India Flint en stage en Bretagne en 2018, 2019 et 2023.
C’est donc avec joie que je vous annonce une nouvelle occasion de vivre cette expérience unique d’une semaine de retraite en sa compagnie.
- Les dates :
Le stage avec India est prévu du 29 septembre du 5 octobre 2024. Il est prévu d’arriver le dimanche 29 en fin de journée, puis le stage commencera le lundi 30, pour s’achever le vendredi 4 en fin de journée. Nous devrons partir du gîte le samedi 5 octobre au matin, après avoir passé 5 jours complets d’atelier.
- Le thème :

- La langue
J’attire votre attention sur le fait que le stage est entièrement en anglais, et qu’il n’y aura pas de traducteur ou traductrice.
Dans un souci de transparence et pour éviter les déceptions, il me paraît malheureusement impossible de participer au stage si vous ne comprenez et parlez pas suffisamment l’anglais, non seulement pour comprendre les explications d’India, mais aussi pour partager dans les moments de vie commune (repas, balades…).
Je sais que cela est parfois source d’incompréhension et de critiques, mais je l’assume complètement : cette semaine n’est pas un simple stage technique, mais une immersion et une retraite créative, à la rencontre de la teinture végétale, de la broderie, de la lecture, de la poésie… Il est impossible de tout traduire à tout instant du matin au soir : je ne veux pas que la barrière de la langue créé deux groupes dans les participantes, et soit source de frustrations pour celles qui ne parleraient pas assez bien anglais.
Avant de vous inscrire, je vous conseille de regarder par exemple cette vidéo d’India pour voir si vous êtes assez à l’aise :
- Le lieu :
Mon souhait en organisant ce stage en Bretagne était de trouver un endroit tout près de l’océan : c’est chose faite grâce au gîte des Couleurs, dont vous pouvez avoir un aperçu ici :
La totalité du site nous est réservée pour le stage, et j’espère que vous aurez le même coup de coeur pour ce lieu que nous !
Le gîte se trouve sur la commune de Tréogat dans le Finistère. Les villes les plus proches sont Pont l’Abbé et Quimper.
- Transport :
En avion et en train, les aéroports et les gares les plus proches sont ceux de Quimper et de Brest. Nous pourrons nous organiser entre stagiaires plus près de la date pour faciliter votre arrivée jusqu’au gîte des Couleurs. Résidant à Brest, je peux facilement vous conseiller pour votre trajet, et même vous conseiller sur votre séjour en Bretagne si vous souhaitez avancer ou prolonger votre séjour.
- Hébergement et restauration :
Tout est prévu sur place et nous pouvons accueillir 12 stagiaires. Géraldine Desindes sera notre cuisinière pendant tout le séjour, avec autant que possible des produits frais, locaux et biologiques.
Pour les chambres, il est possible d’être hébergé en chambre single, double, ou triple. Chaque salle de bain sera partagée par 4 personnes.
- Tarif du stage :
En chambre triple : 2100€
En chambre double : 2300€
En chambre single : 2500€
Chaque tarif comprend :
– la totalité de l’hébergement et des repas du stage (nuit, petit déjeuner, déjeuner, dîner, pauses) depuis le dîner du dimanche soir jusqu’au petit déjeuner du samedi matin, en pension complète, soit 5 jours et 6 nuits.
– 5 jours de stage avec India,
– 1 palette de 6 aquarelles faites à la main par Deep Deep Light, 2 grandes feuilles de papier fait à la main, persicaire à indigo et pastel (feuilles fraîches)
Attention, il ne comprend pas vos propres fournitures du stage (ciseaux, aiguilles, fils, épingles, un carnet et de quoi écrire et dessiner, un sac de morceaux variés de tissus en fibres naturelles), ni votre voyage pour aller et repartir du Gîte des Couleurs à Tréogat.
NB : suite à plusieurs demandes, je précise qu’il est impossible de bénéficier d’un tarif réduit : les frais du stage sont calculés au plus juste et proposer un tarif réduit à quelqu’un ne serait pas équitable pour les autres stagiaires. Pour préserver le format de la retraite, nous ne pouvons pas non plus accepter de visites, ni de personnes hébergées à l’extérieur ; merci pour votre compréhension.
