In English…

These are the informations about India Flint’s workshop in Brittany in June 2023.

EDIT 18/10/2022 : the workshop is full ! Please contact me if you want me to add your name on the wait-list. Thank you

Please note that it is likely to be her only in-person workshop in 2023.

  • Theme :

« We are all tidewanderers on the shores of our own inner oceans; sometimes needing to navigate vast unknown waters, at others simply strolling happily by gentle sunny seas, though always with a weather eye out for a safe haven.

However beyond the metaphor I also believe wholeheartedly in the physical practice of tidewandering, which can be accomplished almost anywhere outdoors, no waters required. It’s the appellation I use for a gentle exploring of the whirld/world, walking at breathing pace, noticing small things as well as the bigger picture, feeling the zephyr breeze on your cheeks as well as taking in the fragrances that are drifting on it. It’s the joy at finding a brightly coloured feather, a perfectly burnished piece of glass, a rusted iron washer or a fragment of cloth that might be salvaged and washed and added to your work; or the simple satisfaction of floating a petal on a puddle.

In this course we will explore the embellishing of the ‘tidewanderer’ dress that I designed for Maiwa (and is being made and sold by them). Each person will receive a ‘tidewanderer’ dress, please specify when placing your deposit whether you would prefer goddess or elfin size, and white or natural linen. Please note we will not be dyeing the whole dress at the retreat, but embellishing it with stitch and appliquéd fabrics dyed during our week together (there would not be cauldrons large enough to accommodate all of the dresses!)

I will also guide you through the design and hand-sewing of a loose overgarment that can be worn as a kind of pinafore/coverall over your ‘tidewanderer’ dress (or any other garment). We will be creating this garment in undyed fabrics and printing it with local plants on our last day. As is usual in my retreats we will share a little poetry and make a few folded books to go into our pockets.

In addition to the dress I am preparing a substantial materials kit for each participant that will include treasures from my collection as well as a lovely soft silk+wool shawl :: all you need to bring are scissors, needles, threads, dressmaking pins or safetypins, an old shirt (the bigger the better) from which we will create the foundation of our pinafore, a notebook and the things you write and draw with, and no more than a shopping bag of mixed undyed natural fibre pieces.

We will be staying together at a beautiful gite within walking distance of the Atlantic ocean, and all of our meals will be lovingly prepared there for us by our chef, Geraldine Desindes, who works tirelessly to nourish us in both body and soul. There may be opportunity to visit a Brocante nearby, but most of our time will be between the gite and the ocean. Please be sure to have comfortable walking shoes with you, and a hat to protect against the sun. »

http://www.gites-couleurs.com
